Chalcopyrite ('Rainbow' iridescent tarnish) & Dolomite - Location: Sweetwater Mine+ Tri-State District Bonne Terre Viburnum Reynolds Co. Missouri. Thumbnail (see photo for more details). Here we have an attractive and colorful matrix specimen of colorful chalcopyrite crystals along with sharply formed white dolomite crystals from a very famous mining district namely the tri-State district in Missouri. The area is famous for the calcite+ galena and chalcopyrite specimens found there. The Chalcopyrite crystals are well-formed and sharp and the crystals are normally a brassy yellow color however most of the crystals have a very bright and colorful 'rainbow' colored iridescent tarnish and the crystals have a bright metallic luster. The matrix is 'coated' with sharply formed white to off-white colored dolomite crystals. There are good crystals on all sides of the matrix (see photos).
