    Highly Fluorescent Hyalite Opal on Volcanic Tuff Matrix - Location: Thomas Range Juab Co. Utah. Small cabinet (see photo for more details). Here we have a specimen of a volcanic tuff matrix with a coating of highly fluorescent hyalite opal from the Thomas Range in west central Utah. Hyalite opal is opal which is transparent (gemmy). The hyalite opal here forms as a gemmy colorless to pale brownish coating of spherical aggregates on a matrix of brownish-tan colored volcanic tuff. The opal is colorless and shows the color of the underlying matrix. The opal will fluoresce a bright green color with SHORT wave ultraviolet light (see photo).
