Here we have an attractive quartz (amethystine) crystal. The specimen formed first as a larger single crystal or crystals. At a later time a second generation of quartz formed on the first crystals giving it a knobby or cactus-like appearance. This cactus habit makes for very aesthetic specimens. The photo does not do this specimen justice. The term Spirit Quartz refers to the purple amethystine variety from this location which is now no longer being found at the mines in any great quantity. According to those interested in the metaphysical it is this spirit variety that is said to have the greatest power and energy.
